Epe was 37 when she did her first triathlon and enjoying the sport helped her enjoy exercise of all types.

How much sport were you doing before that/how would you describe yourself fitness-wise? Minimal sport, I was very unfit

How long did you allow for training before you competed? 8 months

What was the hardest thing about the training? Motivation to do it and stamina to keep going.

Is there anything that would have made training easier/more enjoyable? No, once you get over the hurdle of mentally accepting the challenge it becomes enjoyable.

Did you complete the race first time? (I’d say that was a yes) yes 🙂

Was there anything that you got wrong – equipment/training/other preparation? No, of course could have trained harder, longer, faster…

Did you feel like giving up at any point? Yes, during the swim because its my weakest leg and I was slower than others so a bit demotivating.

What made you keep going? The embarrassment of the boat having to come and get me.

How did you feel at the end? Fantastic, a sense of relief as well as achievement.

Did you want to do another one straight away/never……? Was already planning what I could improve in my next tri during the run.

Would you say it has enhanced other areas of your life -if so how? Yes. Has helped me enjoy exercising of all types. My confidence has grown and my self belief is at a level I never knew it could reach.

Just out of interest – are you still doing them? Yes…with the goal of trying to beat my best time.
