Running is bad for you.

Running is boring.

Running is hard.

Running is SO hard.

Type ‘running is ’ into Google and these are some of the suggested search terms you will see drop down from the search box.

The truth is, running is good for you and everything else is an excuse.

What’s bad for you is

–       not warming up properly
–       not stretching to cool down
–       not forming a habit that your body accustoms to
–       your attitude if you keep saying this to yourself

Here’s three ways to Just Start Running

1. Practice the 5 minute work out, just put your kit on and get outside

2. Go easy. Run for a bit then walk, then run for a bit but just commit yourself to a minimum amount of time for being outside – like 40 minutes

3. Find your local parkrun. These are free, weekly, 5km timed runs (all over the UK), if you have one near you, you will find people in exactly the same starting point as you.

Ask yourself have you met an “older” runner who is worse off for running than better? If anyone is peddling you ‘oh its bad for you’ or ‘its bad for your knees’ or anything like that they are simply afraid of starting out, and afraid of doing it wrong. Maybe you are just what they need to get them motivated!

Go on – just start running!
